A Cessna 206 acquired engine failure during flight on May 1st, 2023. Seven people were aboard this plane, including the pilot. All three adults perished in the crash and their bodies were discovered in the plane. The fate of the children is, however, still currently unknown. The children are the following ages: 13, 9, 4, and 11 months old. On Wednesday May 17, Colombia's President Gustavo Petro stated in a now deleted Tweet that all four children had been found alive. This has been since deleted because President Petro claims this information has not been confirmed. Which begs the question why Petro would share this information to begin with, if it is not 100% certain that these children are alive.

There are still searches ongoing for these four children. It does appear that there have been signs of their survival as rescuers have discovered discarded fruit, and makeshift shelters made with jungle vegetation. Rescuers think that these are signs that the children are alive searching for help. Colombia's armed forces are utilizing airplanes and helicopters for the rescue operations.
