On April 13, 2023, a fire at South Fork Diary Farm killed around 18,000 cows. This is the deadliest farm fire that has occurred for cattle in the United States. The cause of the fire is uncertain at this time, but many are stating that a malfunction within a piece of farming equipment started the fire. Not only does this dairy farm now need to replace buildings and damages, but the owners also could be looking at a loss of multi-millions due to how many cattle perished.
