While most of us have heard about the protests in France, mainstream media has shrouded much of the information pertaining to these 'protests.' First and foremost, there are protests occurring in France; however, it is more than just protesting. The French are in an active revolution against their leadership. This is very apparent in the Battle of Sainte-Soline, which many may have not heard about prior. The Battle of Sainte-Soline was a war scene. It is not about President Macron increasing the retirement age (though that certainly does not help the current situation), but rather, these protests and battles are about standing up to oppressive governments who take matters into their own hands while neglecting the needs of the earth and humanity. So, let's get into what is happening in France that the mainstream media will not cover.

The Battle of Sainte-Soline began March 25, 2023. There were about 6,000 activists who gathered near Sainte-Soline -a rural village that is home to around 400 people- who all came from various backgrounds such as anarchists, ecologists, farmers, and even philosophers. These activists came to the farmlands of Sainte-Soline because there is going to be what many refer to as a 'mega-reservoir' built in that location. This mega-reservoir will fill up by tapping into the local water table, which can produce profound ecological effects such as decreasing biodiversity and contributing to the extinction of certain species. France has been experiencing longer and more frequent droughts. This past summer was France's worst drought on record, and concerns over these more severe, frequent droughts, is bringing questionable solutions forth. Those who are opposed to this mega-reservoir are scientists who state that it will create more ecological problems, as well as small farmers who are saying this would only help large farms and drive small farms out of existence. The demonstrators at Sainte-Soline on March 25, 2023, were there to protest the mega-reservoir.

There were approximately 3,200 members of the riot police and national gendarmerie at the Battle of Sainte-Soline. There were about 200 activists who sustained injuries. Police had detonated over 4,000 non-lethal dispersion grenades.

This is not the first protest that has happened in Sainte-Soline. In fact, back in October of 2022, there were protests in Sainte-Soline. It is clearly more than just protesting occurring within France. The scenes displayed at the Battle of Sainte-Soline are those of an active revolution. The French are rebelling, and if they are successful, it will ignite a wave of revolutions- just as the French did in the late 1800s.
