The United States most recent mass shooting happened Friday April 7, 2023, located near the Charleston area of South Carolina. Many beach goers were high school students participating in senior skip day. Most of the victims were children- either 15 or 16-years-old, while one victim was a 30-year-old woman. Luckily, reports have stated that all victims remain in stable condition.
There were two arrests made on the scene, one 16-year-old and one 18-year-old.
Gun violence is not new to America, and without proper gun legislation in place it will continually happen. Until politicians stop taking money from the National Rifle Association (NRA), nothing is inevitably going to change. It is insanity that there have been numerous bills with bipartisan support for actual gun registries and common-sense gun reform, but the bills never get far because of the NRA lobbying congressional members and literally bribing them. The NRA only cares to maximize their profits, and they do not care what ensues as a result.
I hope one day America will be safe for everyone to live their lives freely, regardless of race, sex, gender, religion, creed, or any other status. But for that to happen everyday people will need to be the focus of legislation, instead of lobbyists and corporate greed.
