A shooting happened in a small town on Saturday night (April 15, 2023) near Montgomery, Alabama. There was a sweet sixteen birthday celebration taking place in downtown Dadeville at a dance studio. It was at this event that shooting erupted, killing 4 and injuring an additional 28. This is just the latest in mass shootings that has occurred in the United States.
Kids should be able to go to school and parties without fearing for the safety of their lives. The United States is insanely dystopian if they think senseless murders like this are just a "price to pay for freedom." What freedom comes at the lives and safety of other human beings? Proponents of the 2nd Amendment (the right to bear arms) often cite mental health as the root of the issue and not firearms. There are Republican lawmakers claiming this exact viewpoint that mental health is the real issue at hand and not ones' right to own a gun. Yet, 205 U.S. House Republicans voted against mental health funding. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. It is clear that Republicans think their constituents will not look into the things they vote for, and perhaps they don't. But how a congressional member votes holds more power than the rhetoric they spew. Just wish that more people were aware of how discernable the corruption and fraud are amongst those "serving the people" in the United States. For whatever reason, Republicans and the NRA are fine with children's lives being at the opposing end of a firearm. How many more times does this nation have to go through the same heart wrenching trauma of our children, mothers, fathers, family, friends, coworkers, educators, being brutally murdered or affected by gun violence?
Enough is enough.
