Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 1718, "to combat the dangerous effects of illegal immigration" (Governor Ron DeSantis Signs Strongest Anti-Illegal Immigration Legislation in the Country to Combat Biden’s Border Crisis., 2023). These words are brought to us by Ron DeSantis's own office which displays his utter ineptitude at helping the people who reside in Florida. The United States has been built upon the labor of immigrants and without their labor the U.S. would not have commodities like the rail-road system. Immigrant labor drives down the cost of goods. In most scenarios, immigrants are working in jobs that no one else wants to work in. They take the brunt of all the work in the U.S. If there are illegal immigrants most of the time these individuals are being paid under the table, usually making less than minimum wage, while also working more hours. Having DeSantis sign this bill into law displays his incompetence as governor. He should realize that this will hurt Florida. This law will cause the price of goods to skyrocket, and it will greatly hinder Florida's economy. Doing something like this that is so drastic while also not addressing any real issues of immigration, is only going to hurt his potential presidential and/or re-election for governor campaigns. He is actively destroying Florida. As a result, there will be an exodus that ensues.
